The Cost of Living Crisis in New York: Why Albany Must Change Course

New York has become one of the most expensive states in the country to live, work, and raise a family.

That isn’t political rhetoric. It’s something families across Assembly District 113 feel every single day.

Property taxes remain among the highest in the nation. Energy bills continue to climb. Groceries cost more. Insurance premiums are rising. Small businesses face increasing payroll and compliance costs. Seniors on fixed incomes are being squeezed.

And much of this is driven by decisions made in Albany.

The Hidden Cost of State Mandates

When the State passes new regulations or spending programs without fully funding them, the burden falls on counties, towns, school districts, and ultimately property taxpayers.

These “unfunded mandates” are one of the quiet drivers of high local taxes.

Assembly District 113 includes communities across Saratoga, Warren, and Washington Counties — areas with both suburban growth and rural economies. Our towns cannot absorb endless cost increases without consequences.

As your Assembly representative, I will push for:

  • Mandate relief legislation

  • Greater transparency in state spending

  • A thorough review of regulatory burdens

  • Tax reform focused on middle-class families

New York doesn’t need more programs. It needs smarter budgeting and fiscal discipline.

Affordability must become the top priority in Albany.
